Brian on “Kiss Me, Baby”

March 8, 1965 saw the release of The Beach Boys Today! album. It signaled a departure from the band’s previous work with its orchestral sound and Brian’s arrangements, incorporating timpani, harpischord, vibraphone and French horn. Just twenty-two years-old, the album was produced, arranged, and primarily written by Brian, with additional lyrics by Mike Love. Mostly recorded in January 1965, the album featured over 25 studio musicians. Standout tracks included “Do You Wanna Dance?,” “When I Grow Up (To Be a Man),” “Help Me, Rhonda,” “Dance, Dance, Dance,” “Please Let Me Wonder,” “Kiss Me, Baby” and “She Knows Me Too Well.”
