BEACH BOYS icon Brian Wilson is bringing the seminal Pet Sounds album tour to Newcastle this August in what will be one of the highlight's of the region's summer festival calendar.

Taking place opposite the Centre for Life in Newcastle on Sunday 6th August, he will bring the Live From Times Square outdoor music party to a stunning and memorable close and will delight fans by performing one of the most celebrated albums of all time in full.

In celebration of the album's 50th anniversary, Brian will perform the last date of his current UK tour backed by a stellar line-up which includes the world's favourite bluesman Seasick Steve and the Motown sensation Martha Reeves and the Vandellas. 

SSD Concerts' Steve Davis has also confirmed that more exciting acts will be added to the bill in the coming weeks. 

Speaking about today's announcement he said: “Pet Sounds, like Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles, is one of the most influential records of all time and to be able to confirm Brian Wilson as our closing act for this year's Live From Times Square event is an amazing honour.

“If you haven't been able to get tickets to see him perform this album elsewhere, this is your last chance. It's an event you can't afford to miss.

“We're also massive Seasick Steve and Martha Reeves fans too and we can't wait for this one.  Don't miss out.”

‘Pet Sounds’, which includes hits such as 'Wouldn't It Be Nice,' 'God Only Knows', and Sloop John B, was the eleventh studio album from The Beach Boys and was originally released in May 1966.

In the UK, the album was hailed by the music press and was an immediate commercial success, peaking at number 2 in the UK Top 40 Albums Chart and remaining among the top ten positions for six months. 

Pet Sounds has subsequently gathered worldwide acclaim from critics and musicians alike and is widely considered to be one of the most influential albums in music history.

Speaking in an official statement, Brian Wilson, said: “I’m really happy to be able to come back to the UK and perform Pet Sounds yet again for all our fans. The response from everyone has been amazing and that’s why we decided to come back and play Pet Sounds for one last time.”

He continued: “We want to thank the fans in the UK for all their support, and look forward to playing these shows this Summer. Love and Mercy, Brian.”

Tickets for the event go on sale Monday 20th February at 9 am.
